Risk
Slide 1
Risk can be defined as the intentional interaction with uncertainty
Matthew 10:39 Slide 2
Are we alive?
Are we really living?
Because you are busy does that mean you are alive?
Perhaps we are just existing because we don’t know what living is really all about?
Perhaps we don’t want to Risk upsetting our world our families, our culture
Jesus just told us
He who loses his life for my sake will find it
The world we live in has become so Risk conscious, people have become Risk conscious
We have risk management companies
Risk management assessors
Risk insurance
Friends
Family Parents etc
Culture
Religion
We are constantly warned by society at large don’t take risks
We hear
Things are to risky
To dangerous
To high
To deep
To low
Not good for us
Bad for us
Do’es, Don’t’s Can’s and Cant’s
I don’t have….
Saving face. protecting the family name
So we live out dull boring lives within boundaries thinking that this is what living is all about.
Chasing after everything that cannot satisfy until the day we die.
I want to say tonight, that I believe this is nothing more than a big fat lie from the Devil himself which enchains and entangles us.
We become so afraid of stepping outside of the Risk boundaries
As a result we live
In Traditional values
Complacent
Passive
Immobilized lives.
Stuck in ruts so deep without divine help impossible to get out of Slide 3
We have a saying
A rut is a groove in the ground
If you stay in a rut ( Groove ) long enough it will become your grave
Even our education, our training, puts limits on us
Stay within the boundaries of our education or training.
Tonight I want to inspire us to break out of all this bondage we find ourselves in and become the people God has called us to be.
Does that now mean we must all become rebels of society
Live outside the law.
Not at all,
God has given us knowledge and wisdom how to live within society
We are in the world but not of this world.
God has a great plan for all of our lives
When he knit you together in your mothers womb, he had greatness in mind for you.
A greatness which goes beyond our human abilities and talents, understanding and intellect.
God’s plan for our lives launches us into his preferred future for our lives
A plan far superior to anything which you could ever experience outside of him.
A plan which will truly bring you alive.
But it means we will need to step out of our world
Step beyond the Risk boundaries established in our lives
As a Christian How do you spell Risk Slide 4
F.a.i.t.h
As a Christian How do you spell Faith
R.I.S.K
Everyone and everything is trying desperately to keep us living within the risk boundaries
If we truly want to experience the presence and power of God in our lives
We have to step out of those boundaries
Step into what God has called us too
Step out of our world, step into his world
We keep wanting to invite God into our world
He invites us to step out of our world, into his world
As long as we are living within the boundaries of what we know,
What we have
What we can do, what we have
We live powerless, faithless, meaningless lives
2 Timothy 3 : 5 Slide 5
Having a form of Godliness, but denying its power
Jesus himself and many Bible characters model this life for us
Example
Exodus 20:12 Slide 6
The boundary set by this scripture apparently says that I must honor and obey my parents until the day I die, Right?
Matthew 12:46-50 Slide 7
His family were upset with him
He was causing trouble with the leaders, they were losing face
Living outside of the customs and traditions
Jesus is dishonoring his family?
True?
No Jesus is correctly dividing the word of Truth.
Jesus is obeying scripture
Genesis 2 v: 24 Slide 8
Jesus stepped out of the boundary which said whenever Mommy or Daddy call I must drop and run.
Example 2
No work on the Sabbath
Leviticus 23:21 Slide 9
So on the Sabbath no work right
Mark 3:1-6 Slide 10
The scripture in Leviticus 23:21
You shall do no work of labor
Again religion tried to restrict Jesus into conforming to an incorrect interpretation of Scripture.
Jesus lived outside of those boundaries, he lived a life of Faith, he lived a life of risk.
You say
I haven’t got,
I could never,
I’m just a little………
God would never use me in that way
You see again we are trapped by the I don’t have boundary
A man by the name of Moses, a man who had been a shepherd in the desert for 40 years
Called by God to lead his people out of slavery into freedom.
This man Moses thought of every excuse possible why he couldn’t do
Tried to convince the one who created him that he was the wrong guy.
I cant, I’m not able, I cant speak, I don’t have…
Moses was telling God everything he didn’t have
God asked him a simple question
Exodus 4:2-3 Slide 11
It’s not about what we don’t have that matters, it’s what we do have
The question we should ask
What do I have ?
Moses had a rod, God said give me what you got
What happened?
he threw it on the ground it became a snake
He surrendered what he had to the instruction and will of God
When he picked it up again
This rod in his hand became the rod of God
Moses performed many mighty miracles with this rod
Christian what have you got
If you truly want to live
Give him what you have got
A man by the name of Paul an Apostle
Teaches us
Ephesians 2 : 10 Slide 12
Before we were even born, God had designed us to do good works.
2 Peter 1:3 Slide 13
Jesus has the power of God. And his power has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to God. We have these things because we know him. Jesus chose us by his glory and goodness,
I want to leave us with Jeremiah 12:5 NIV Slide 14
God calls us to compete with the Horses,
A Metaphor for running ahead of Storms
God calls us to manage in the thickets by the Jordan
A metaphor for living victorious, overcoming lives.
In reality, Men’s ways wear us out
Safe country deceives us into living so called peaceful lives.
Will you live outside the boundaries which man has set for you
Become all that he calls you too
Will you loose your life And Live in His?
