Redemption

Redemption

Slide 1
Definition
Simple definition is to buy back something lost or stolen.
IE
I lost my watch, Someone finds it and sells it to his friend.
My friend buys it back from this person and gives it back to me.
My watch has been redeemed.
The person selling the watch, makes the decision to set the price he will charge.
This is what Jesus did for us, Jesus bought back eternal life for us through his sacrificial act, he paid the going price giving his life.
Jesus paid the price for our redemption.
If someone had all the money in the world, all the wealth, the diamonds, gold, and every known gem in the world, they would never have enough money to redeem a single person .
The price for our redemption could never be paid by any human.
Only Jesus could pay the price set.
The question which I want to ask today.
What did Jesus buy back?
Luke 19:10  Slide 2
For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Ivy read
John : 10 : 1-10
Verse 10 Slide 3
The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
Who or what is the thief?
Yes the devil is a thief, but not the only thief.
Dead Religion is a thief
Our wrong thinking is a thief
Our false beliefs are a thief
The lies we believe about ourselves are a thief.
How do you see yourself : Perhaps you have a low opinion of yourself.
Think about a dog
Are you the head that wags the tail, or are you the tail which is being wagged by a head?
Jesus came to redeem us from the thief
The thief has stolen, killed, and destroyed who and what God designed us to be and do.
He tells us in Verse 10 B
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Greek word Abundant Slide 4
The problem is, we don’t know what abundant life is meant to be like.
The models see have painted a picture
Money
Power
Possessions
Position
This is a lie that most of us believe
The more we have these, the more abundant life will become.
I have someone in my family who is always chasing these things.
Big house, big salary, big car,
But when I look at her life.
Her whole life revolves around her work,
She gets e mails from her manager at 10 pm at night, demanding an answer by 8 am the next morning.
She has almost no time to even enjoy what she has.
Even though she has all these things She doesn’t realize that she doesn’t have life
Her job is like working in a salt mine.
She doesn’t realize this
Am I saying that having all these things is wrong?
Not at all.
The questions we should ask
Do I have money, or does money have me?
Do I have possessions, or do possessions have me?
Jesus came to give us much more than this
Mathew 7 : 11 slide 5
How much more will heavenly father give good gifts
God is the God of the much more.
How does the Bible describe abundant life ?
Romans 5 : 17 Slide 6
Adam as we know is the one man That Paul is talking about,
Death came through him.
The promise for us who believe
God will restore to us everything lost
Paul also says “How much more”
What will we receive Slide 7
1.Abundant provision of Grace
2.Gift of righteousness
3.Reign in life.
Our thinking about what we have lost.
Lost money
Lost my job
Lost my watch
When God speaks about redemption, he speaks about things which have eternal value, and what mankind has lost since the fall of Adam.
Because we live in a fallen, dysfunctional world, we have become blind to what has been lost
We don’t know or realize what mankind has lost, or we don’t know how much we have lost.
We are content with crumbs instead of understanding that God wants to give us a full loaf of bread.
Some of The promises
Joel 2 : 27 Slide 8
The Prophet is using locusts to help us understand.
The locusts are like the thief in our lives that have eaten all the crops.
God says I will repay you for all the things you should have been receiving throughout your life but have not received.
Example
Company has been paying you too little for the work you have done.
Genesis 1:28  slide 9
God says to Adam and Eve
Be fruitful
Multiply
Subdue
Have dominion
Rule over life

How much has been stolen from you?
Your identity
Your purpose
Your inheritance
Your position in life
God’s desire is to redeem and restore everything lost

How?
To go up, we must go down first

James 4 : 6-10 slide 10

The keys to receiving all that Jesus has already redeemed
Submit to God – his word
Resist the devil - When temptation comes
Come near to God – relationship
Acknowledge our sinful state - repentance
Humble ourselves
He God will lift you up.

God is in the business of buying back everything stolen

His purpose is to Establish you into all he designed you to be.
